How To Onboard a Product Using a CSV File?

1. Overview

Importing products is useful if you switched to GCommerce from another platform or if you want to make any changes to your products or inventory.

When importing, GCommerce converts the data from the CSV file into products.

Before you begin, make sure you've read the following topics:

  - Explanation of CSV files

  - Explanation of the product CSV fields

2. Importing products with a CSV file

If you have a CSV file that was exported from another store or came from another source, make sure it matches the CSV file format.

Your product CSV can't exceed 64MB. If you get an error when trying to upload a new CSV file, then check to make sure it doesn't exceed the size limit.

Steps:

  1. From your GCommerce vendor admin, go to Products > Products Upload.

  2. Click Bulk Import > Import products.

  3. Click Default import preset.

  4. Under tab File click File > Local.

  5. Locate your CSV file, then click Choose for Upload.

  6. Click Save (top right).

  7. Under tab Fields mapping you can check and validate the fields and also preview is available.

  8. Click Import.

When your CSV file is uploaded you receive a confirmation popup with details about the import.

3. Using CSV files

You use a CSV (comma-separated values) file to import products into your GCommerce store and to export products from your store. By using a CSV file, you can import or export large numbers of products and their details at a time. This can be helpful if you want to exchange bulk product information between GCommerce and another system.

3.1 Get a sample CSV file

You can download and view a sample product CSV file to use as a template:

     - The sample file contains an example product. Your import file likely contains many more products. If you use the sample file to create your own import file, then make sure that you remove all the example products.

3.2 Product CSV file format

The first line of your product CSV file needs to include the field headers described in the table, in the same order, each separated by a comma. Later lines in the file should contain data for your product using the same fields in that exact same order.

If a column is blank and you choose to overwrite products with the same handle when you upload the CSV file, then this can delete data in your GCommerce store that is related to the column. For more information, refer to the table below.

Field

Product name

The title of your product. Example: N95 Respirator

The Product name column can't be blank or missing.

SKU

The SKU of the product. This is used to track inventory with inventory tracking services.

Price

The price of the product. Don't include any currency symbols, include only the price. For example, 9.99.

The Price column can't be blank or missing.

Whether a product is available to your customers.

Valid values are:

A: The product is active and ready to be sold

H: The product is hidden and can be accessed only by direct link

D: The product is disabled and no longer available to sell

If the Status column is missing, then all products will upload as active. If the column is present, then blank values will cause the upload to fail with the error: Status isn't valid. Set the status as active, hidden, or disabled.
